Wow! That's approaching the fuel economy of the ILX hybrid which costs about the same as a TLX i4 Tech. We climate change believers have found a good alternative to luxury hybrids in the TLX. I posted this in the gallery but have now seen how to insert graphics thumbnails using the little buttons. (The graphic showed up in the preview but not in the post.)

My recent results also posted in Gallery
3rd Prev. Trip: Econ: Annapolis-Rehoboth-Ocean City-Annapolis
2nd previous: Normal driving around Annapolis.
1st previous: Normal trip to Skyline Drive, up to 3,300 ft and back down including first transit through DC in heavy traffic
Current trip A: Normal return from VA around heavy DC beltway traffic during rush hour.
Very nice mileage. Especially in Econ. I thought I heard someone say they didn't save much with Econ over Normal or Sport, but you sure did. That's great.

Have you thought about doing a test in Sport mode? I would think Sports mode in heavy traffic might be a waste, but I wonder how it performs on a long trip.

I cannot do any altitude tests in Florida.

How is beautiful is Skyline Drive this time of year?

Summest: Remember the Econ trip to the ocean was in nearly flat land like yours. I always paddle shifted to keep rpm above 1500 when not coasting but lugging. The latter kills mileage.
The normal was better in the mountains but since the speed limit along the Skyline Drive is 35 mph, normal using the paddle to downshift in slight grades kept the gas pedal constant. Normal downshifts quickly in the steeper grades. My perception is that the shift options are torque sensitive with sport downshifting sooner when under load. If we go back to this spectacular fall drive in the Blue Ridge after an upcoming conference this week, I will try the Sport setting for the whole trip.
In town, Econ lugs the engine when not on a highway, so I have been using normal most of the time. I'll try sport with my next refill.

have been driving the TLX SH-AWD to work during rush hour as a commuter car, drove under econ and and using auto engine idle stop and coasting when possible. that said, weather wasnt good (raining) and there was an accident on the highway today which drags down mileage

distance one way is about 35-40km, it's mixed driving, about 75% city driving and 25% highway driving, with highway driving driving no faster than 60mph for the most part (more like 50-55)

looks like i am averaging about abit better than 11L/km so far, will update as i progress throughout the week

i feel that i will get better MPG closer to advertised values if traffic conditions are better and the weather is better and warmer. the advertised MPG is always in near perfect conditions anyways

my fuelly wont be a good presentation since i have only been using it for congested rush hour driving, my MPG will be horrible and drag down the average

I know for me for the first couple of weeks, I was sitting parked with AC on while I fiddled with the gadgets. Or I was parked showing off the gadgets with the AC and engine running.:)

I have 500 miles on mine now. I drive 70 miles a day total on 100% freeway. Most of that is at 70 mph on cruise in sport mode with 93 octane gas. Cruise on basically the entire time without adjustment. Best I registered 34 mpg with my I4. Temp outside around 60 degrees.

Its friday today n the roads in toronto are not as congested during the morning drive to work, SH-AWD V6, same route, 75% city driving 25% highway, econ mode, lots of hypermilling n coasting whenever possible (basically driving like a hybrid), easy on the brakes whenever possible at a red light (rolling stop), engine idle stop whenever possible, outside temp is around 7-9C, drove for around 45mins, max speed just below 60mph, A/C off 95% of the time, getting 9L/100km for my trip. 10L/100km city driving before entering the highway which dropped to the 9L/100km total

engine idle stop does not work for the first 5 mins of driving from a "cold boot", so i suspect the engine needs to warm up first before the idle stop can kick in. which also means when we reach sub-freezing temperatures this function may not work as frequently (if at all) as in the summer or even now.

so going forward, i will most likely leave the car under ECON mode while commuting or normal driving, certainly will not need the full 290HP on the engine in those cases. even though gas prices are temporarily dropping, it still ain't cheap to fill up the TLX for almost a hundred bucks. will put it in SPORT mode if i feel like speeding beyond 75mph or need to accelerate entering a highway ramp to get to highway speeds (but even then ECON is probably sufficient)

i would say under normal to slightly desirable conditions, the advertised city driving MPG is certainly achievable, if not better. canadian models are rated at 11.2L/100km for city driving and overall i am getting around that range (11L/100km or so), or even better if i am more conscious on applying fuel-saving driving techniques and if we are driving in warmer temperatures where the engine warms up much faster.

for this reason i am placing my vote on "better than advertised". may get even better if in the summer (A/C usage may affect mileage though)

i have yet to take long road trips to test crusing highway MPG, but i personally care about city MPG more than highway MPG

I drive from Ajax to Aurora in Ontario and today my average is 7.0 liter/100km or 34 miles per gallon. Only had the car since Tuesday and i drive avg 100kms per day both ways to work. The 7.0/100km is in all sport mode too. Keep in mind i drive avg speeds of 60km to 100km back roads. Decent vs my previous 4gen TL. My best in 4gen TL was 8.3/100km few times and that is with nursing the pedal like a granny. Avg is 9.5 to 10.5/100km 4gen TL.

i read somewhere that driving any faster than 100km/h or 60mph on the highway will increase your MPG and the extra gas use is not worth the extra speed due to drag

Wow thats very impressive mileage!
for the heck of it, i just tried jammerz' back roads route

- from markham to stouville
- much shorter distance travelled than jammerz
- not terribly conscious on fuel saving techniques this time
- zero highway driving
- ECON mode with AC off

and i got 8.1L/100km. so i think jammerz's 7L/100km is very plausibly achievable for the longer distance he travelled

did a bit of highway-only driving just before midnight. road is clear, all cars are driving at their limit, no cruise control, same 'ol driving style (ECON mode with AC off, as much coasting as possible), got 7.6L/100km on my short trip, which is slightly lower than the rated 7.8L/100km, so advertised MPGs are certainly achievable or better for both city driving and highway driving depending on your driving habits and style

i also ran my gas tank empty, didnt fuel up until there's only 5% left, with 50km range left. could have tried to milk that remaining 50km/5% fuel but dont want to risk it since it's a brand new car

also looks like the trip computer is a bit off in terms of mileage, i finished my tank of gas and after a fuel-up my "raw calculation" mileage is 10.4L/100km (amount of gas fueled up divided by distance traveled), while the trip computer says 10.0L/100km

guess i am going to start using fuelly, but no images are allowed in signatures on this forum?

fueled again just now, with only 12% fuel left, engine light not on yet. trip computer says 9.9L/100km, though fuelly/raw calculation gives me 10.3L/100km

so it looks like the trip computer is off by 0.4L/100km pretty much consistently, which i guess is a good thing since my lexus fluctuates alot on the MPG and for the TLX i can just subtract 0.4L to get the real MPG

this tank was using 89 octane fuel, and got pretty much the same mileage. though i should be able to do better since i wasted quite abit of gas idling and digging through vehicle settings for idle stop stuff (which requires you to be idling on park) and testing the tire repair kit for pumping air into the tires, which requires the cigarette lighter plug and boy does it eat alot of power; you really need to have the car turned on and running.

my next tank is filled up with 91 and letsee how it goes, and i need to seriously stop playing around with settings when the car is idling. but i feel that long term i will be using either 89 or 91, depending on gas prices

Fuel consumption (city)

2nd tank. 91 octane. I achieved 10.4 l/100 km or 22.6 M/US G or 27.16 M/ Imp G. Mostly city driving. Commute to work is about 25 km one way with max speed of 80 and a total of about 15 traffic lights and 3 stop signs. This is slightly better than shown on Acura site. My past experience with my 2004 TSX was significantly better on the highway than advertised ...but who is complaining

:D

The car has only over 1000 km on it but the temperature has been dropping which negatively affect gas consumption. I'll keep you posted.

Better than EPA

With 6k miles I am getting between 37 to 40 mpg with the 2.4 mainly highway driving, normal IDS. Recent road trip was disappointing as I fought head and cross winds reducing mpg to around 30 for the second half of the trip. Now if they could fix the transmission issue we'd have something. When cold it is very jerky on shitfs
