I read on the news that here in New York, the tint law might change where our cars won't pass inspection if your car has tint. You will have to remove it in order to drive your car, pass inspection, and then put them on again. State inspection locations will be required to have devices which read how much tint you have on your car, and then they also have to decide whether the tint came with your car when it was brand new (then it would be okay like on an SUV).

the law isn't changing, they're just going to start enforcing it.
so it's not if you have tint, it's if you have tint that doesn't comply with the law.
nys dmv website says 30% block / 70% transmit. (https://dmv.ny.gov/registration/tinted-windows)

I'm still kicking around the idea of getting tint done....

It is the same in the Ottawa area. It was tolerated for years but they decided to start enforcing the rules....as vague as they are in Ontario. To avoid the hassle I decided not to get the TLX done. It's the first I haven't got done in awhile. There are still lots on the road with tint. It's a gamble I guess.

Why are they so aggressive about the rear windows? Man, I'm glad to live in Alberta where we don't even require front license plates.

In Quebec we can have whatever we want on the rear windows. The driver and passenger windows is what they're fussy about.

No front plates here either......and cheap beer.

Finally got my windows tinted! I put it off the entire sunny summer....and now its fall, oh well. 35% ceramic all the way around. With the 70% minimum factory window tint, I was told the actual light level would be closer to 30%.

Not the best photos thanks to the gloomy weather, but I love the black on white contrast!

PS: I've never tinted my vehicle's windows before. Is the 'lighter' area (in the last 2 photos) around the outside of the windows normal? Its only in certain areas on my back window and the small windows behind the back seat doors. Obviously there are little black dots on the window itself that are apart of the trim. I literally snapped a pic 30 minutes after I picked the vehicle up so I know its not entirely dry, just wondering if its something I should worry about.

It looks good. The black and white contrast always look great.

I'd let the tint settle for a few days before I'd start to worry about how it looks. It may need to dry out a bit.

I used the ceramic tint (not from the dealer$). It's not very dark, but very functional in the south Texas heat! In 2015, we bought a TLX ADV and an MDX Tech at pretty much the same time (not sure how that happened, lol). I went to the tint place, and asked how much for the TLX to have ceramic. Sticker shock!!!. Then, I asked how much for both the TLX and the MDX at the same time. Got probably 45% each one. Love this stuff!

OK, I need some help. I got my TLX 2 weeks ago and want to tint the windows. I checked the local tint shops and went to the highest recommended one. I am going 35% all around.

This tint shop uses Johnson tint film which seems to be fairly highly regarded. He showed me 2, a semi-metallic "Marathon" which looked great BUT the word "metallic" scares the **** out of me with all the electronics. the guy said he has never had anyone complain or come back due to RF interference. He said full metallic will cause RF interference and he doesn't even use it. It looks true charcoal or smoked color. Cost $200 for the car.

I of course asked about Ceramic and he carries Johnson InsulatIR and the cost is $300. Price is no big deal but when he showed it to me he explained that they can't get the same charcoal/smoked color in ceramic. It had a slight brownish hue to it.

I am tempted to try the Marathon semi-metallic and see what happens because I am not so sure on the slight brownish hue.

Advise me oh great tint gods.

I put 25% on the fronts and 5% on the back, it looks really good. I went with Suntek Carbon for the brand and it came up to $220. Wish i could post pics but my post count isnt high enough yet.

Hello. I'm new here. I have a 2017 TLX Advance SH-AWD. I got my windows tinted today. Is there a way to turn off auto dimming side mirrors and rear view mirror? I tried to search the keywords with no luck. Thanks in advance!
