Just want to know of those of you who have taken delivery, how do you find the posted MPG or L/100km as compared to real driving conditions?

They recently changed the way they do the ratings here in canada for 2015. They run it over 5 cycles instead of the 2 they previously did so the figures I have seen for the MDX for example seem more accurate than before, and there isn't the 2-3 litre difference (sometimes more) in whats on the windshield to what's actually produced!

Every manufacturer got a reality check around 2007, when EPA decided to update their rules to post real life MPG, vs. driving in a continuing circle at 40mph for 10 minutes.

When I had my 09 TSX, I averaged 19 MPG in the city and 29 on the hwy. The V6 today won't beet these numbers. Those posting magic MPG, learn to calculate them properly.

Great Mileage even in Sport Mode!

On my third tank now.

I seem to average 35.5 MPG on the highway and 28 combined city/highway in Sport mode using premium gasoline. 75% of my driving is interstate/turnpike. I never just drive in the city alone. Once I take a long trip out of town on the highway, I will manually check the mileage.

I am happy I get this much in Sport. I wonder if the computer can be trusted?

I would suggest figuring it out manually for a few tanks to confirm what the car is telling you. My current vehicle is off a bit. Still good numbers though.

Trip Computer is Neat

The trip computer is neat. I never had one before.

My MPG per tankful is a combination of city, highway, sitting still in the car learning about the features with the AC on, and showing friends what I learned with the AC on.

While MPG per tankful is not all that amazing, I expect it to improve once I get past learning and being amazed by the car.

MPG on the highway, using the per trip measurements is usually around 33 to 35 MPG on the highway. The next out-of-town trip I take, I will keep manual track of the mileage and gas used and do the math.

My first drive on the Washington Beltway was very encouraging. Started from learning how to operate my 2.4L tech and display reported 23 mpg at 55 city miles. On the beltway 100 mile round trip I tried out Sport, Normal and Econ. Discovered the paddles which converts Econ to a manual shift machine. Amazing : I spend most of the time in 8th at 1500 to 1700 rpm, but can downshift to 7 or even 6 to climb hills without changing the gas pedal. By the time I got home after quite a bit of crawling along in heavy traffic, the meter showed 32 mpg for this gas load and 155 miles of driving 1/3 Annapolis, 2/3 beltway with lots of stop and go.
Also got to compare my Garmin 1350 with the Navi system. Didn't use Navi except to view traffic congestion and a better view of interchanges on the drive to Va, but easily got directions to go home verbally. Actually I like using both systems as they have different formats and I can switch the large screen to viewing what is playing on both the HDD and usb inputs. Spectacular sound! Fabulous quite ride on concrete pavement! Much less noise than my Michelins on the TSX.

Can-you top this mpg?

Update 10-5-14
Best Sunday drive in an Acura: Annapolis to Rehoboth, DE and down strand to Ocean City to Fenwick Island and back to Annapolis )(238 miles) Broke 40 mpg just beyond Kent Island and stayed between 39.5 and 43 mpg for the rest of the trip which was mostly 50-60 mph on both 4 and 2 lane state highways in relatively level ground . The I4 sweet spot for gas mileage seems to be 1500-1700 rpm. Used -paddle to keep it there in lugging conditions below 1500. Filled up with 5.0 gallons of premium at 208 miles (41.6 mpg vs 40.3 on Trip A in economy mode with no drafting.)

Be aware that I learned how to go lightly on the gas pedal driving my 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid 240 miles on 4 gallons of regular gas on a round trip Richmond Va. some years ago (Some drafting 18 wheelers was involved back then which I had learned driving my horribly underpowered 1958 VW Bug.) The Civic hybrid had the same display as the TLX Trip A mileage so I learned how to increase my TSX economy by 3-5 mpg as well without this guide.

Just filled up for the second time 70 / 30 highway vs city and averaging 33.9 real calculation - mileage divided by gallons. I have been running in "normal" mode and the trip computer has been within 0.2 mpg of real numbers. My typical commute - I live 20 miles North of Boston and work approx 14 miles South of Boston. I commute in at 4:30 AM and average about 70 mph return commute at 2 PM typically averages 40 mph with a mixture of stop & go, short stretches of 55 - 60 and the occasional bail out to side streets to avoid major accidents etc. Very happy so far with the car and the gas mileage.

I am still finding the sport mode to be more fuel efficent which is strange.
Also it gives me a better driving experience and less lag when I hit the pedal.
I am in the 4 cylinder.
The numbers are worse than reported for me but I mainly do city driving. When I do highway I get the reported numbers, just finding city to be slightly more per 100 kms, maybe 0.5 to 1L more per 100kms.

I'm on my first tank and spending a lot of time with the engine idling while I try to figure out this computer on wheels. That's eating into my mileage so I can't give an accurate report yet. I have the Advance package.

The main display and both trip indicators show identical mileage. Who knows how to reset the average mileage shown in the dashboard display? Does it happen automatically? In the Mercedes I traded in there was a button to do the reset. It was easy. Can't find such a button on the TLX.

As I read other posts, it seems folks are getting different readings on the trip indicators and with each tankful. I'd like to start it over when I fill the tank, but I can't find out how to do it in the owner's manual.

Im still getting worse in the 'normal' IDS mode. But when I switch to 'Sport' it gives me better gas mileage...?
The only thing i have noticed that may contribute to this is when I take the foot off the gas in 'Sport' the rev's drop to the bottom straight away, but when in normal it holds the revs higher so on flats it can hold it for 15-20 seconds keeping me in 80 kms for that period then slowly dropping off. Sport it drops the second i lift off the gas.
Its the only thing I have right now....?

Interesting, I think I see the opposite behavior with mine. I passed the magic mark of the 600 mile brake-in last Saturday and started driving in Sport, which is tremendously enjoyable, btw. I see the revs stay high when I let my foot off the gas after accelerating and I actually use paddle shifters to up shift to overdrive (7th, 8th) to quickly bring the rpms down. I have the I4 FWD.

38.2 MPG in Sports Mode

Tonight I drove 41 miles to have dinner at my favorite restaurant in West Palm Beach, Florida. The meal was great, but the drive was superb.

I drove nearly 41 highway miles at an average speed of 64 MPH and got 38.2 MPG in Sports mode. I did have to stomp on the gas a couple of times, but I did try hard to compose myself and drive a solid 70 MPH when I could. I drove on flat land about 10 feet above sea level. Outside temperature was 77 degrees Fahrenheit.

I am amazed that the MPG was this good in Sports mode. I took this picture of the dash when I got to the restaurant after a little city driving.

MPG contest

Wow! That's approaching the fuel economy of the ILX hybrid which costs about the same as a TLX i4 Tech. We climate change believers have found a good alternative to luxury hybrids in the TLX. I posted this in the gallery but have now seen how to insert graphics thumbnails using the little buttons. (The graphic showed up in the preview but not in the post.)

My recent results also posted in Gallery
3rd Prev. Trip: Econ: Annapolis-Rehoboth-Ocean City-Annapolis
2nd previous: Normal driving around Annapolis.
1st previous: Normal trip to Skyline Drive, up to 3,300 ft and back down including first transit through DC in heavy traffic
Current trip A: Normal return from VA around heavy DC beltway traffic during rush hour.

Very nice mileage. Especially in Econ. I thought I heard someone say they didn't save much with Econ over Normal or Sport, but you sure did. That's great.

Have you thought about doing a test in Sport mode? I would think Sports mode in heavy traffic might be a waste, but I wonder how it performs on a long trip.

I cannot do any altitude tests in Florida.

How is beautiful is Skyline Drive this time of year?

only drove it for 2 days, i will say that i got a bit lower than advertised for my SH-AWD, though i was driving in sport mode most of the time. wasnt hypermilling or using any fuel-saving features but i did try to glide/coast as much as i could

Summest: Remember the Econ trip to the ocean was in nearly flat land like yours. I always paddle shifted to keep rpm above 1500 when not coasting but lugging. The latter kills mileage.
The normal was better in the mountains but since the speed limit along the Skyline Drive is 35 mph, normal using the paddle to downshift in slight grades kept the gas pedal constant. Normal downshifts quickly in the steeper grades. My perception is that the shift options are torque sensitive with sport downshifting sooner when under load. If we go back to this spectacular fall drive in the Blue Ridge after an upcoming conference this week, I will try the Sport setting for the whole trip.
In town, Econ lugs the engine when not on a highway, so I have been using normal most of the time. I'll try sport with my next refill.

have been driving the TLX SH-AWD to work during rush hour as a commuter car, drove under econ and and using auto engine idle stop and coasting when possible. that said, weather wasnt good (raining) and there was an accident on the highway today which drags down mileage

distance one way is about 35-40km, it's mixed driving, about 75% city driving and 25% highway driving, with highway driving driving no faster than 60mph for the most part (more like 50-55)

looks like i am averaging about abit better than 11L/km so far, will update as i progress throughout the week

i feel that i will get better MPG closer to advertised values if traffic conditions are better and the weather is better and warmer. the advertised MPG is always in near perfect conditions anyways
