My 2019 TLX engine blew October 21st only 79k miles on it, my VIN is confirmed part of the recall. Acura is still fighting me on the repairs. I was about to order a used engine for the repair this morning until I saw this. I'm waiting on a call back from the case handler at corporate. The other option is a $21k repair at the dealer the I, "may be able to get reimbursed for".
I would think that you would be approved quickly, good luck, keep us updated.

Best of luck! Unfortunately, the warranty claim information won't be posted until a later date.

I'm sure this is obvious, but I'm going to put it out there anyway. There's a good chance any used engine could turn out to have been been pulled from an vehicle that is also part of the recall.

Also, concerned about the used engine having the recall. If I have to go that route, I'll ask the parts distributor if they can run the VIN. If not, then fingers crossed it lasts until March when I had planned to trade this car in anyways.

That's probably a better time to trade-in than now...which I'm currently in the process of doing. Dealers either don't want it or will only give you what they may get at wholesale auction. The timing of the recall notice really stinks in that respect! Though after two engines, one w/ 38k on it and the 2nd w/ 28k, I'm not up for waiting for them get around to providing the fix since I'm approaching 30k on the 3rd engine. I probably could have sold privately had I put it up for sale at the beginning of Nov, but I didn't see this coming and my '24 Integra Type-S showed up yesterday, a week and a half early. Excited for the new ITS, disappointed I can't get more for my TLX.

Maybe good news, I heard back today that corporate was waiting to hear back from the dealer. Basic information about my maintenance records, etc. My maintenence history is is perfect, all done by Acura dealer. So hoping this ends well, will update with end result. In case anyone is interested here are just a couple of photos of the damage from the underside of my car.

Geez, man. That’s like looking into Three Mile Island.

Well, I guess I'll be contacting my Acura dealership. When I read the recall, it says they will inspect... My TLX has only 17k. I'm afraid they will say, "you look good" and send me on my way... I'm going to ask (demand) pictures of the inspection. I've been through two different recalls. None were really addressed completely. My air bag situation has never been addressed. It is stiill listed as "open". My transmission recall ended up being a fluid replacement and "inspection", but 23 years later it still shifts smoothly...

This on the other hand, better be handled correctly. Otherwise, many Honda/Acura buyers will be put off forever. I certainly will not buy another if this isn't corrected.

Safety Recall Report attached.

Estimate percentage with defect 1%. # of potentially involved 248,999.
Thank you for posting this! Somebody correct me. This document says that of 250,000 vehicles only 1% might be involved? That is a small number... 2,500? So the remainder 247, 500 are not impacted? So was one engine manufacturer involved?? I'm curious what stories I'll be told?

Spoke with my dealership today. They are very aware of this recall. From what they understand, the process is being defined. Something like a confirmation that your TLX is impacted, then an inspection, depending, replacement parts upto and including engine replacement will be performed. January is the month they expect this process to start. So I'm pleased that I haven't had the experience what some have reported here!!

Not all 2020s are affected. Cars that were made later in the production year appear to be not affected. You can call 1-888-234-2138 to check to see if your vehicle is part of the recall. Nothing we can do until Acura communicates with the dealers and has the parts available to perform the repairs.

It's 1% of 248,999 which is 2,490 vehicles. The Recall Report states that Honda received 1,450 warranty claims. That leaves about 1,040 Honda and Acura vehicles nationwide that still need to be repaired. I have not calculated the potential ratio of the number of Honda vs. Acura vehicles but there are 274 Acura dealers nationwide and 1,072 Honda dealers.

Analyzing the Service Bulletin, Recall Report, and email to the dealers, this is my interpretation.

The Recall Report says:
"During production of the crankshaft, due to improper settings of equipment used to manufacture the engine crankshaft, the crank pin was improperly ground, resulting in crank pins with a crown or convex shape that are out of specification."

I interpret this to mean that the "machine" that made the crank pins would go out of calibration and then be recalibrated. So the engines that were made after recalibrating the machine are fine and the the engines made when the machine was out of calibration are not. Just my guess though.

The email clearly instructs the dealerships to "nspect and if necessary, replace the bearings and/or the crankshaft and/or short/long block. Therefore, what is going to happen is inspection first. If there is no damage, there is nothing to be fixed. If there is wear but the engine block is fine they will replace the affected parts (i.e. bearings and crankshaft). If there is block damage and imminent failure, they will replace the short/long block.

The affected Honda and Acura vehicles all use the same engine. The engine is manufactured in the USA by Honda for Honda/Acura vehicles. So no "story" to be told. This is their issue and the email also warns the dealerships of their liability if they refuse to fix the vehicles.

The only catch for us though is that we have to wait until January. Honda has to prepare detailed inspection and repair procedures/instructions for the dealers and get repair kits (parts and tools needed) out to them.

My TLX does show up on the Acura recall website. It was buiilt 10/19. So I'm going to wait for the Jan 2024 start. On another recall note. After speaking to a service agent a few days back, I got a call back on my 2000TL. Parts were in for the airbag. It got replaced...! I was somewhat surprised, considering it's age. (y)
