Here is a question: Why do you think Acura passed on putting the 9 speed ZF transmission into the new 2016 RLX?


They kept the 6 speed...

I think that I read somewhere that the RLX is the last Acura sedan to be made in Japan, whereas the other models are made in USA. They must have the 6 speed trans plant in Japan. The ZF I believe is made in South Carolina. Again....just a memory of something that I read somewhere...could be very wrong.

I would have been fine with using the 6 speed in the TLX, but I am (relatively) sure that Acura will get the ZF and DCT updated and behaving properly for everyone.

TLX is a new car so it gets new technology. If the 6 works fine in the RLX why change it.

True.. but the MDX was a 6 speed, and the 2016 is now the 9 speed. Makes me wonder why they didn't upgrade the RLX also.

Maybe it's just a matter of volume and the cost to change the manufacturing process. I have never seen an RLX on the roads around here. Maybe they just don't manufacture/sell enough to invest in changing the build process.

Very good point. I have seen two.. ever. Three, if you count the one in the showroom.
