Hello fellow tlx owners.
I bought a 2015 tlx this last December 2019. It’s been a great daily driver.
Something I like to replace on used vehicles I purchase is the steering wheel.
They’re usually worn down and damaged, and someone else has handled it for the last 5 or so years.
To anyone who has built/tuned vehicles they know how important driver inputs are.
As I was looking at a direct Oem replacement. I saw the aftermarket options, They didn’t really appeal to me given the price and lead times.
I began to look into the tlx aspec steering wheel. I was able to go to my local dealership and sit in the vehicle and look over the steering wheel. I was really happy with how it felt and could tell there was a difference in the thickness through the 2-4 and 8-10 o’clock positions.

I ordered the following Steering wheel.
78501-TZ3-A81ZB
I paid just under $160 shipped.

It was a direct replacement. I couldn’t be happier with the results.
Here are a few pictures, they unfortunately do not do it justice.

Great upgrade. Was it difficult to replace?
I guess that depends on people’s experience level.
I would say it’s 3 out of 10.
You need a t30 Torx, Allen socket, 3/8 extension, Phillips screw drivers.
and patience. I had no idea how the steering wheel controls came apart to in order to swap it all over.
Took me about an hour and a half from start to finish and test drive.

That would have been a good post for the How To -DIY section. If you took any pictures during the process maybe consider posting there.

What is that I'm seeing in the picture just to the left and slightly down from the "+" paddle shifter? Is that damage to the housing?
