Ray,

You have no idea how helpful this is. I can definitely show this to the service manager at the dealership. I will give Allan a call as well. I’m from NJ by the way, is Allan from Acura customer care corporate? Or is he strictly working within your area?

Did they charge you any amount even though your car is under warranty? Even for the replaced Tie Rods?

Thanks,

Pretty sure Allan is with the US office and not regional.

I was never charged for anything. Had a loaner the entire time for free as well.

Just dropped my car off at the Acura Service. Fingers crossed. I sent them a video and a link to these forum and talked to them about Ray’s findings. Hopefully issue gets resolved. Got the exact same car as loaner haha

@RayHOU just checking in to see how your car is performing after you got it. Are you hearing that noise anymore? I just noticed my loaner started to make the noise too but it’s not as loud or as much like my own car but I’m sure as I’m driving it, it will get worsen. Dealership reached out to me and said they’re working with Acura to fix it and that they did hear the noise

My car seems fine. There have been no issues, but I will continue to monitor it. My loaner started making the sound too.

I've got a noise issue too but it's crackling from the speakers 😂 dealership thinks I'm lying because it's random and can't be reproduced. Similar to the sound on the RDX from a post a couple years ago... Like a speaker wires lose. That and over 100 errors on my amp.

Greetings,

Just joined in hopes of running an issue by all of you. I purchased a 2021 TLX (FWD) a month ago, and it has been in the dealer's shop with an undiagnosed issue for two weeks. Whenever the vehicle is at highway speed for about 20+ minutes, there is a loud knocking sound that comes from the front end whenever the steering wheel is rotated between 90 and 180 degrees with left (counterclockwise) rotation being worse than right.

Obviously, I can't rotate 90 to 180 degrees when at highway speed, so this sound is reproduced when immediately slowing to parking lot speed following 20+ minutes at highway speed. I assume that the fact that the issue only emerges after significant demand is indicative of a heat/thermal expansion issue, but I really don't know enough about cars to guess beyond that.

The dealer has no idea what is going on and has been in discussions with Acura (corporate?) to determine the next steps. They've asked the dealer to run a few tests, but there have been no suggestions of what is causing this.

So my question is does anyone have a suggestion I can offer the dealership? Anyone with a similar issue? Not too excited about a brand new car being in the shop for 2+ weeks with an undiagnosed issue.

Thanks,
Ray
I had a 2021 TLX A-spec with those exact problems. So basically after driving the car for at least 30 solid minutes seems like the steering rack components start to warm up and will start making a crackling type sound only during really slow type maneuvers such as going through a fast food lines where you have to make small changes to steering and so on. These small changes in steering causes a crackling, plastic type noise. But once the car sits and cools down the noise goes away temporarily. My personal opinion is that there has to be a major issue with the Steering Rack Assembly. And even if they replace the steering gear, box or whatever what's to stop that very issue from coming right back after only a couple thousand miles. I traded in my TLX for a totally different brand and model I'm just not willing to go through those headaches. Gonna miss that stereo system though

I have the same issue with the knocking noise. The technicians at Pohanka Acura were trying to figure it out. They have decided to try replacing the cable reel, which includes the steering angle sensor. I am going to show the technician the videos that are posted here, as that knocking noise is exactly what I hear with my 2021 TLX, and it only has 3,800 miles. It’s disappointing. I have had an Acura since 2013, but with all the issues, I too may switch to a different vehicle brand.

Can people with the issue post the date your car was made?? It should say the month/year on the inside of the drivers door. Mine was 2/20

Sujoy,

I just received my car on Saturday after being in the shop for a total of two months. I suspect that this issue is going to force a recall as my loaner started doing it too. I'll summarize the repairs below, but in short, you need to be persistent with them. They eventually flew an engineer to the dealer who identified the problem. During the four attempts at fixing it, an agent with Acura Customer Care got in touch with me. He and my service adviser are very familiar with the problem. I recommend calling them and letting them know Ray gave you their contact.

Service Advisor: Juan Macias 713-596-2333
Allan w/ Acura Customer Care: 310-781-5047

Repairs:
1. Left and right outer tie rod ends replaced - did not fix the problem
2. 5131C0 Steering gearbox, electric power steering - replaced
"2854 EPS rack making creaking noise internally 5131C0/042 3.2. Performed the noise concern diagnosis with the (marksman 2) to pinpoint the noise concern as per techline recommendations and found the noise is coming from inside the electronic power steering rack. Also recorded the noise and sent it to techline specialist via email. (Leon Imholte Ref# 4411054). Removed and replaced the power steering rack assembly"

Car seems to be working normally now.
Thanks for sharing this RayHou.

I was watching your video and also heard the hydraulic noise coming from when depressing and releasing the brake pedal. I wonder if you car still makes that sound? Did you bring this to Acura's attention? I am asking because my car is doing the same thing and it's really loud and annoying. Thanks.

My steering is also making the knocking sound... Started on Saturday. Today was really bad. Seems to be more pronounced in hot temperature. My car was made Sep 2020...

Any luck with yours getting fixed?

Hello. Just joined to comment on this thread. I have a leased 2021 base and I'm experiencing pretty much the same undesirable clicking/knocking sounds coming from what appears to be from around the steering column and/or front driver's side wheel well. It happens when both steering left or right at very low speeds or parked. I don't consider it loud, but it's very annoying when I notice it. It doesn't happen all the time, but after driving a bit and when it starts happening, it won't go away until the car is parked for several hours.

I can take it to the dealer, but really dread the the inconvenience to my schedule. Especially knowing there isn't a clear fix yet, they'll probably want to mess with a gazillion things to diagnose, which will take a lot of time.

Good Evening All,

I have a 2021 TLX A-Spec SH-AWD. I took delivery in April. The car was built in Feb of 2021. At 2100 miles thereabouts I too contracted the noises discussed here. I mentioned the others having issues on this forum and called the service advisor listed in Texas. We had a decent discussion and I forwarded all suggestions to my service advisor. I took my car to Acura of Memphis in early June where it sat for a week and a half while they "diagnosed" the issues. I "watched" from afar via the app and saw they had driven it less than 2 miles in a week and a half after I had given them the initial conditions and drive time required to recreate the noise. I confronted the dealership on their blatant mishandling of my case when they told me they had driven the car every day and that I had to come down and reproduce the noises myself. I took the tech out and recreated the noise with zero issues. I am about to take the car back to drive a loaner as I feel the issue is an insurance liability and Acura/ the dealership don't think we consumers will realize this. The current lemon law in TN states they have 3/4 chances to fix the car or 30 days of downtime for repair. I believe I have a valid lemon law case as the parts won't be released from Acura until 8 August at the earliest. The insult to injury is that the dealer's service dept manager stated that they didn't know what the issue was and that is why they are just throwing an entirely new steering column and rack & pinion at the car. I don't want to be stuck with a bill when it fails again out of warranty as someone else stated many replies prior to this one. I felt it was my moral obligation to submit my issue to the dealer and I hope others will come forward as well to hopefully spawn a recall.

Same noise and knocking in driver footwell started at 2170 miles on a 2021 tlx aspec. It happens at low speeds in a parking lot or parked. Turning the wheel left and right the noise can be heard in driver front dash and in wheel well. I have a video with clear audio of the noise if anyone is experiencing the same. Sorry for the leg shot, was trying to get microphone close to dash. Dealership currently has the car and the techs were able to duplicate. They just need time to find out what is causing the issue. Information forwarded to dealership. Thank you.

Update 7/22/21: Dealership stated they are aware of the issue and has ordered a new steering rack. Was told it will be about a month until the part comes in.

I don’t know if these recent videos are amplifying the creaking noises, but wow, they’re much louder and annoying than what my car is doing. I really hope Acura figured this out and announces a recall to get the issue corrected.
