iPhone 5 not recognized via USB

13237 Views 27 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  marlark
For the past two months, my new TLX has been recognizing my iPhone 5 via USB connection. Suddenly, it says the device is either non compatible or just not detected.

I've swapped out cables to no avail. I've done hard re-starts of the phone and that doesn't help, either.

Anyone else have this issue or can offer a solution?

Thanks!

It can have to due with updating either the TLX's system or the iPhone's OS. Do you know if you have done recent updates to either system? Anything in particular you can remember changing recently that may have caused the difference?

It's quite possible that if you had upgraded firmware with some update that could have triggered the issue.
I had this problem after updating to the newest iOS. You will need to delete the phone from the car. Here is the procedure. Hope it works for you.

Just for my education, by connecting to USB instead of Bluetooth do you get any added functionality?

I have never connected my Android through USB. Bluetooth works great for everything I do.

Just curious.

:)
Oops, I guess I didn't read his problem correctly lol. Not the same thing at all.

For music on the iphone if you hardwire it in through USB you get things like the album art when playing music on the screen, didn't notice any advance controls that I didn't get with bluetooth though. And you can't make or recieve calls with USB alone, you need blutooth connection also for that.

If anyone has an iphone and hasn't upgraded to OS 8 or whatever then i would wait until there is a confirmed fix!

No issues with iPhone 5S, ios 8.1.2.
@Summest
Wrt to Bluetooth, i find it chews up a ton of battery. So in the car i use USB all the time when playing my music. But i have heard this is an iPhone challenge, less with Android or BB. And phone gets charged too!

I believe I did upgrade my OS a few weeks back, so that sounds like the issue. I will follow the instructions from Syzgy and report back.

Thanks for the responses, all.
I deleted the phone and re-paired it. (And reloaded all speed dials.)
Still no USB connectivity.
Any suggestions?
Let's assume I recently updated my Apple 5 OSX to 8.1.2.

Thanks.
If you assume you recently updated it then you will have to wait with us all until Acura or Apple release a fix (Not likely to come from Apple!).
So we are waiting for Acura to fix it. Not going to be high on their list unfortunately.
Can't see this being fixed for a year!
Ummmm-why assume? 8.1.2 or not?

Also - 5 and not 5s? If so i can try a 5 i have lying around this weekend. No SIM but wont matter for usb i assume.

Will advise or remind me! After all it is the weekend :)
It's an iPhone 5 and it's running OSX 8.1.2

And the fact it worked great and now it doesn't work at all is a real shame.
At least I had two months of listening to podcasts in my car. Now I guess I have to go back to ear buds while driving.

Is this an issue for the new iPhone 6, as well?

Can you fall back a version or is that even possible or maybe it would be too painful?
Looks like reinstalling an older OSX on iPhone 5 has debilitating consequences for data, plus, Apple may not allow it to occur due to their disabling the "signing" function a week or so after the new OSX is available.

I guess my best solution now is to upgrade to iPhone 6 when my upgrade comes due and see if that works as a USB connection.

(wondering if I should've leased the Infiniti)
Before you commit to buying the iPhone6 is there any way you could borrow someone else's to see if theirs works in your car? I've read in other forums that the new iOS versions don't play well with the Honda/Acura systems.

I had both the iphone 5s and now the 6 with the latest updates and everything works. It may be an issue with your system - I would have Acura check it out first. IMO.

I'm only assuming out of politeness, this is pretty much why it won't work.
Anyone having problems with iphone its well documented with Acura and on the net.
If you having problems its because you upgraded or brought a new phone.

Some with the new software don't get the errors, so its not affecting every car but if you do have these problems its because of the latest update to the OS of the iphone.
I have the iPhone 6 and there is no problem. It has the latest iOS. I'm driving the V6 SH-AWD.
