What's the cost driver on the $3500?

My car got hit by a co-worker and the headlight lens was the big cost driver. The body shop did a great job of buffing the lens and saved my co-worker over $2k.
Well the estimate has a lot of sublet charges, like my radar cruise and 25 clips from the bumper. Stuff like that. I like the body shop everytime my car looks new after it done but it paid by my insurance, this time I am pay by my pocket plus car rental, it will take me an arm and a leg which I didn't expect to.

My dealer said that buffer won't work because the paint is out. Now I try to contact my dealer to see did they have a different body shop maybe cheaper.

That is what I thought, just want to see what options do I have. But I like my body shop so very likely I will go there. Thank you for your suggestions.

That was my question too. I had my bumper removed and partially repainted, radar reset, and a black plastic insert replaced for about $1200. My co-worker who hit my car knew the owner of the body shop, so he got friend prices...but it wouldn't have been much more than $1,700 regardless. I had another quote from a regular body shop and it was around $3700, but over $2k of that price was for a replacement headlight assembly.
The estimate coming from the body shop need to recalibrate the radar cruise and they don't do that they have to sublet to another company. That alone cost 600.00.
And too bad I got no friend to help😆😆😆

Thank you for all of you to concern about my problem. And the worst thing is when I talk to the dealer, they refer me back to the same body shop but a different location. Go figure.

Yes I got hit in my own garage in a condo, I do I'd the suspect but he denied. I don't want to have my insurance increase and the body shop I go to is the body shop that I can trust. Thank you for asking me those questions, I have been asking those questions in my mind for the past two weeks, is good to have a third party to listen to. Thank you.

That’s bad and horrible Richard, I work in VA and these drivers are something else, hate that someone hits you and then leaves no information or anything. Had the same thing happen to my last TLX late last year at a hotel parking lot in VA.

also shout out to Radley Acura my favorite Acura store in VA lol
I shout out to Radley not much help, they are the one tell me to look for body shop, I just don't understand some people that they make a minor mistake but not accepting their mistakes that makes so much worse than just hit my car and hid at their parking spot. Worse part is my garage is gated, only so many cars can be able to get in and my car is low, it must be a small car can reach that low. Right? If you are in VA, which part of VA were you?

By the way all my Acura are from Radley, what a coincidence. My first one is 1999 TL front wheel drive, then 2019 TLX AWD is a CPO but there is electrical problem, Radley upgraded for me to this one Type S twin turbo, I love the car it rides better than any of my Acura, it is ashamed that someone hit my car.🥲

Is the garage under camera surveillance?
Too bad we don't have camera inside the garage, the building manager said that due to privacy, if there is accident should treated it like street parking. I found the suspect vehicle but nothing I can do and management will not step in for this matter.

If the other car has damage, you should take some pictures of it and consider calling your insurance company.
I call police to identify to see the damage matching or not but the police is reluctant to do so, they came over and look but can't decide to say that car do it. I wrote a letter to the guy, he denied it. He said he hit the wall but there are damage under his bumper which match the damage of my car, doesn't matter unless the driver confess. Right now I am debating to call my insurance or not. I make the appointment with my body shop next week, so we will see. I will keep everyone posted.

If you make an insurance claim......they might go after the other guy if your pictures present a compelling case. Of course, for $3500, they might not feel like its worth the effort. Hard to say with insurance companies.
Well thank you for you and other listeners, I have file my insurance claim, next week inspector will come and look at my car and the other car, everything so far is smooth sail and I also obtain a Police Report to support my claim, and I save a lot of grand and already stated not my fault by my insurance which is a good news. Car rental will be offer and if they believe is the other driver fault, I may even save my deductible expenses too. Finally I feel a little easy.
Thank you for all of you. I will keep you all posted.

I would contact my insurance agent, advise them of the situation, and get their input as to whether they would pursue the other individual. It likely would fall under your under-insured/non-insured comprehensive coverage so I don't think they would place you at fault. Since it was in your apartment building's garage, you may want to check with your renters insurance to see if it may fall under that instead of your auto insurance. Also, I don't buy your building manager's excuse, I'm pretty there's no expectation of privacy in a parking garage. Cars today have cameras all over them and will be recording driving in and out of there.
Thank you for your concern, I live in 55+active adult community, this is not an apartment is condo and both my home insurance and auto fall in to same insurance company. However maybe I am a Asian and not Caucasian. Or they just not helpful. I still remember last time I report the incident to them, the manager pretty straight forward when the building get damage by the home owner, she yell at him. I don't want someone get yell at and if the management told me they don't interfere, I don't want to argue. However my auto insurance accepted the claim as no fault to me. Right now I install a dash cam in my car to prevent that happen again. Just FYI I ask Acura link to see did the cam in car can be traced but Acura link said the cam only work when my car is moving or is on. I just hope in the near future they can download soft ware to all Acura for security purposes for same situation happen to me to others.

I'm unsure I follow the asian vs. caucasian comment, but in either case, it sounds like your on a good path w/ your auto insurance. No point in yelling at anyone as it won't improve the situation, just make it worse. I'm surprised your insurance didn't recommend reporting the hit-and-run to you local law enforcement, but in the current climate they're short staffed so who knows if they may even get to investigating it.
Yes you are right my insurance company told me that at this moment due to short staffing, they are not coming to investigate what they need is compare my estimate with their own and photo from the body shop. Infact the suspect insurance also call me and asking questions, don't know what happen yet but I told them my car is come with collision avoiding system, if my car really hit something it will be more serious. I will keep you all posted.
Thank you for listening.
