How I Fixed My Rear Deck Rattle: 2017 TLX

All,

I posted my disassembly instructions earlier, and here are the things I did to solve the rattle. Even with the volume on 30 (louder than I will listen), it just BARELY rattles, and only on certain tones. If I didn't know what to listen for, I wouldn't even hear it... so I consider this a 100% fix for my listening habits. I went from MASSIVE rattling at anything over 15 or 16 on volume, with almost all bass tones, to having no audible rattles at all now.

I do want to give credit to a user (max3lv6) on the Azine forum for the tuner box mod, which I applied and modified a bit.

I am sure there are even better materials or methods to make this better, but here are the ways I fixed mine. Let me know if anyone has any questions.

Absolutely fantastic. I may print this off and take to my dealer. Thank you!

Glad to help! Just FYI, in order of importance (what did the MOST to fix the rattles) were:

1: silicone on the rear brake light coupling.

2: shoving the insulation strips between the rear window and deck to cancel the deck vibration modes.

3: The silver tuner box and plastic clips insulation.

All the other things were either the dealer attempts (white foam tape) or my additions on the "ribs" which made sense to me as a preventative action while I had it all apart. They fell into the category of, "its real easy and it can't hurt".

THank you for this post, i have a rattle by the rear brake light and i will attempt this tonight with the silicone. I just installed a sub so i hope the silicone will hold up and not rattle. When i apply pressure with my hand, the rattle mostly goes away. Do you think it will hold with the added sub?

i recently add a sub and the rattle was so crazy I put fiberglass insulation between the trunk lining and deck which helped a little but still there so I'm going to try a few more things first if nothing works I'll take the deck off and go from there

I followed the procedure for the tail light fix and it seems to have fixed that rattle, based off of my morning commute. I only have a rattle from the deck area that comes only with very high bass. Thanks Jbed
