2018 TLX V6 and the 10-speed automatic transmission

I am waiting until 2017 to buy the 2018 TLX. I'm almost certain I want to buy the 4 cylinder simply for the responsive 8-speed dual clutch transmission.

However, is it possible that the 2018 TLX V6 will have Honda's new 10-speed automatic transmission? If this is the case, I would consider a V6 AWD TLX over the 4 cylinder. The new 10 speed is supposed to be more responsive than the 9 speed currently used in the 2016 TLX V6. This article stated that 2018 Honda/Acuras may adopt this new transmission: http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...c-transmission

Honda has demonstrated in the past that it does change transmissions mid-model, such as the 2014 Civic eliminating the 5 speed automatic and replacing it with a CVT transmission. I am hoping this is the case with the TLX.

I also heard rumours that the 10 speed will be in the 2018. Time will tell I guess. I'd rather wait for them to get it right. Hopefully they learned that lesson with the 9 speed.

Wonder if they would introduce this in the RLX as a initial launch. Would love to test drive it... in any model.

You know, I'm not completely sold on the uber-speed transmissions. Maybe it's a programming thing. Fuel efficiency-wise, I can dig it, but sometimes it doesn't downshift fast enough for my preferences. I'm sure they will get better as engineers get more experienced with them, but they just aren't there yet.

The 3.5/6AT combo in my RDX is fantastic. They should offer a "normal" tranny for those of us that could care less about fuel economy.

According to the 10-speed transmission test drive:
Quote:
The oval permitted speeds up to 111 mph, and while I got up to that speed, I also slowed down to 70 then punched it to see how the transmission would react in a simulated passing procedure. Honda says the transmission can downshift up to four gears at a time, but during this test the transmission downshifted from 10th all the way to 4th. It probably occurred in two steps: 10th to 6th, then 6th to 4th, but it happened quickly enough that any driver would be happy with that performance on the highway.
So the Honda 10 speed transmission will be able to downshift 4 gears at a time, and it does it fast to the point where it won't affect performance. This is in a test version too, so imagine how efficient the final product will be.

Or just buy the 2.4L with 8 speed automatic like any enthusiast would. It's so much better than the V6 powertrain. Having driven the 2.4L in the ILX and TLX, it's the powertrain to have in my opinion.

Way underpowered for the car. I do agree the 8DCT is nice, the 4-banger in a 3500lb car is not.

That's what's nice about having choices. The availability of the 2.4 allowed me to choose a TLX. If it weren't available, I wouldn't have a TLX. The V6 is not for me, but others may want it. Choice is good.

Not underpowered at all. Way more than enough for daily driving and spirited driving in the GTA. How often do you actually use more than 1/2 throttle on a daily basis? Outside of highway merges, I think it's safe to say the answer is rarely, if ever?
